Managing Carbon
Carbon Management Plans
The University currently has two carbon management plans, detailing the stratgegic principles for delivery of a net-zero carbon footprint.
Our 2005 Scope 1 and 2 baseline emission rate was calculated as 13,850 tonnes CO2e, and annually we set ourselves targets to reach our net-zero Scope 1 and 2 carbon by 2030 target, and eliminate any Scope 1 and 2 carbon offsetting by 2050. Through the staff and student 25 by 25 campaign, the University aims to cut 25% of its production of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions within just three years, from 2022. Carbon Scope 3 Targets and Baselines are further detailed in its Management Plan.
Annual Environment Reports, carried out as part of the University’s Environmental Management System contain information on annual carbon emissions and show the status of our targets.
The University supports and funds staff and student-led carbon-reduction projects through a number of budgets.
Sustainable Travel Policy
In addition to the sustainability conditions noted in our Travel and Expenses Policy, we have also produced a set of Guidelines for Staff to reduce emissions from business travel.
Carbon Emissions from Residential Accommodation
The University is able to calculate Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions for all residences owned by ¶º±ÆÖ±²¥, including those managed in-house and all our externally contracted accommodation.
